Weekly Muse Issue 19: Creative Inspiration and Highlights

Welcome to The Weekly Muse — a behind-the-scenes look at the week’s happenings, reflections, and a few favorite finds that caught my eye. I hope you enjoy these little inspirations as much as I do.

Isn’t that tiny enamel pagoda box just delightful? I discovered it at a local consignment shop and couldn’t resist bringing it home. At only about 4 inches tall, it feels like a miniature treasure — perfect for a dresser, bookshelf, or layered on a coffee table vignette. Those little found objects can add personality to a room, and I love the way this one captures attention without overpowering a space.

My week at a glance

This week was dominated by Hurricane Helene, which made its presence known across our region. We were on the eastern edge, so our experience was mostly wind — steady gusts that rattled windows and sent leaves and lighter branches flying. It was a reminder to batten down the small things before a storm and to check on neighbors, especially those who may need help securing outdoor items.

Our usual “lake” returned to the front yard after the rain, and several branches came down. Fortunately, we didn’t lose any major trees this time, and cleanup has felt manageable. When storms pass, the work of clearing debris and assessing damage always takes a little time, but having a plan and a few sturdy tools makes a big difference.

Beyond our neighborhood, my heart goes out to the small mountain towns in North Carolina. From reports and images I’ve seen, some communities experienced severe flooding that left homes and roads badly affected. It’s always sobering to witness the impact of extreme weather on tight-knit places — the recovery takes time, and those communities need our compassion and practical support as they work to rebuild.

Sunday Scripture

He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.
He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes.
He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold?
He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow. Psalm 147:15–18, ESV

This passage felt especially resonant after a week of stormy weather. It’s a reminder of both the power and the rhythms of nature, and of a steady hand that orders the seasons. In the midst of life’s unpredictable storms, I find comfort in returning to words that remind me of presence and provision.

On my wishlist

I’ve been collecting a few things that feel perfect for this time of year — cozy, useful, and easy to gift. First up, these stoneware mugs. Their organic shapes and warm glazes make them lovely for everyday use or for a thoughtful present. They pair well with a soft knitted throw or a small packet of artisanal tea as a simple, meaningful gift.

If you’re planning holiday decorating, save this guide to hanging garlands. It offers practical, creative tips for making garlands look polished — whether you’re draping a mantel or framing a doorway. A few simple anchoring tricks and lightweight materials can make a big visual impact without damaging surfaces.

I’m also inspired by this shades-of-blue fall tablescape. It’s a lovely reminder that seasonal decorating doesn’t have to stick to the expected palette — using blues and unexpected hues can create a sophisticated, modern table that still feels warm and welcoming.

For fall entertaining, I’m bookmarking this autumn chopped salad with apple cider vinaigrette. It looks bright, seasonal, and easy to assemble — the kind of salad that pairs beautifully with roasted mains or can stand alone as a fresh, flavorful side.

Finally, I’ve been eyeing a cable knit mockneck cardigan. It’s the ideal layering piece for cooler days — cozy enough to wear at home but structured enough to layer under a coat for outings. Pair it with jeans and boots or over a dress for a versatile fall look.

I’ll be sharing more finds, styling ideas, and small weekly observations in future editions of The Weekly Muse. If something here sparked a thought or inspired a little seasonal project for you, I’d love to hear about it next time.
