I’m delighted to open my doors and invite you in — I can’t wait to show you around the spaces I’ve refreshed for summer.

A big thank you to Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for organizing this lineup of seasonal home tours. These tours are a wonderful source of decorating inspiration, and I’m honored to be a part of this seasonal showcase.

If you’re joining from Whispering Pines Homestead, welcome — I’m so glad you’re here. Anita’s home feels like a warm, welcoming hug.

Summer has always been my favorite season. It brings back memories of pool and beach days from childhood, and even now the season fills me with excitement and a desire to bring color and brightness indoors.

This is the time of year when nature explodes with color, and if you know me, you know I love color. I’ll take any excuse to add joyful hues to my decor.

I start in the living room, where a foundation of classic neutrals makes it easy to incorporate seasonal accents without overhauling the space.

The best part? You don’t have to reinvent the wheel each season — small additions can make a big difference.

If I picked a color of the year for summer, it would be coral. You’ll spot it sprinkled throughout the house — in pillows, art, and small accessories. Coral feels fresh, warm, and perfectly summery, and it’s definitely trending in home decor right now.

Because coral was already present in a few fabrics and prints, adding more for summer was effortless. A good tip: choose a hue that already exists in your home and amplify it for the season.

TIP: Pick a color already in your decor and use it as a seasonal accent to create cohesion without major changes.

One of my favorite, budget-friendly ways to add seasonal color is with pillow covers — they’re inexpensive and easy to switch out. The coral covers on my couch mimic an upscale designer fabric but cost a fraction of the price.

I also like to add a touch of coastal charm — but just a little. Coastal accents are easy to overdo, so I keep them subtle: a shell here, a blue accent there, or a piece of driftwood on a shelf.

A modest coastal influence pairs beautifully with coral and other summer hues. Remember, less is often more with themed decor.

You don’t need to redecorate an entire mantel each season — swapping the stems in a few vases can refresh a display instantly. I had pink cherry blossoms in spring; for summer I switched to vivid tangerine branches that feel sunnier and more playful.

A practical tip: dollar stores can be a helpful source for affordable artificial stems when you only need a few pieces. While I prefer real flowers when possible, a few well-placed faux stems can be a smart, budget-friendly choice.

I like to display stems in unique vessels — here I used artichoke-shaped tulipieres on the sideboard. Small, unexpected containers add personality and a handcrafted feel to floral displays.

Another seasonal swap I enjoy is changing the decorative plates on my plate rack. Swapping plates is an easy way to update color and pattern without permanent changes, and it keeps the room feeling fresh.

I found a set of topiary plates at a consignment shop — likely vintage from the 1990s — and they make a charming, timeless statement. Topiary and botanical motifs are always in style in one form or another.

This year I remembered to fertilize my hydrangeas, and they are showing off with lush blooms. Fresh garden flowers are unbeatable, but there are excellent artificial hydrangeas on the market if you need a low-maintenance alternative.

Across the breakfast room, a small bench piled with colorful pillows adds a cheerful pop of seasonal color and creates a cozy spot that feels instantly summery.

As I close this colors-of-summer tour, I hope you’re inspired to add bold, refreshing touches to your own home. Seasonal decorating doesn’t require a full makeover — small, thoughtful changes like a splash of coral, a coastal accent, or a swapped floral arrangement can transform a space.

Whether you change pillow covers, refresh vases, or rotate decorative plates, each small update helps capture the spirit of summer. Above all, have fun with it. Here’s to a bright, joyful, and wonderfully vibrant summer. Happy decorating!
