I’m sharing my rustic farmhouse Christmas mantel, plus Christmas mantels from around America!
I’m so excited to share my Christmas mantel this year. I’m honored to be included alongside eighteen fellow bloggers from across North America, each showing how they style a mantel for the holidays. I’m representing my home state of North Carolina and invite you to explore the different regional takes on Christmas mantel decor at the end of this post.

This year red has made a big comeback in my home. After years of avoiding red—especially during what I jokingly called my Tuscan phase—I found myself drawn back to it when I picked up some tartan plaid Christmas plates for the breakfast nook. That simple pattern set the tone for the rest of my holiday decorating, and red and green have taken center stage in the family room.

For the mantel I kept the wreath understated and added a Nordic sweater garland to give it a cozy, handmade feel. That same garland repeats across the mantel and blends into the greenery. Small, squatty trees add height and a whimsical touch beside a cherished sign that reads “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

One decorating shortcut that makes seasonal updates easy: I keep architectural pieces, like shutters and a large statement board, on the mantel year-round. For fall I added a wooden board to layer behind a wreath and sign, and I simply kept that arrangement in place for Christmas. The shutters become a perfect backdrop for twig wreaths, small ornaments, and red lanterns, creating a layered, textural display without a lot of fuss.

Initially the mantel still felt like it needed something more. Adding a felt ball garland in red, white, and green provided the final playful pop and tied the whole vignette together. The combination of rustic textures, traditional colors, and a few modern touches is exactly the balance I wanted this year.

In recent years I’ve pushed myself to try non-traditional mantel looks, but this year I have truly enjoyed returning to classic Christmas red and green. The result feels joyful and familiar, and I suspect these colors will be a staple in my home for the foreseeable future.

The tartan plaid dishes from the breakfast nook were the starting point for this year’s palette. I styled the open shelves in the breakfast nook first and then carried that cozy farmhouse theme into the family room, so the whole space feels cohesive for the season.
