After the fuss of winter holidays, I was ready for a simplified, bright look—and spring is the perfect season for that. If you’ve followed along, you might already know the breakfast room got a fresh cottage-style update. I’ll show you the rest of the house and the easy blue-and-white ideas I used throughout.

The front porch is wide and welcoming. I painted the Adirondack gliders white to create a lighter, cottage vibe, and added blue-and-white outdoor rugs and pillows to frame cozy conversation spots at each end. I even left the front door wreath-free this season for a pared-down look—simple can feel striking.

In the foyer I kept decor minimal: a blue-and-white rug anchors the space and a lamp plus a pretty blue planter holding a faux fern provide just enough interest. I replaced one wall bench with a basket used to store a few of my mom’s collected umbrellas—small personal touches like that make the entry feel thoughtful and welcoming.

Blue and white continue into the living room. I styled the entertainment center, coffee table, and seating with blue accessories and added a few new pillows. Mixing patterns—Jacobean florals with large beige-and-white motifs and blue-and-white plaids—creates a collected, cottage feel that still reads cohesive.

On the mantel, tall leafy stems in a woven blue planter add height and drama in a room with a two-story ceiling. Large-scale greenery is one of the simplest ways to add seasonal life without heavy fuss.

The breakfast room and kitchen open to the family room and have undergone a few updates as part of an ongoing refresh. I’m waiting on the upholsterer to rework the dining chairs later this summer, but in the meantime I’ve focused on open shelving styling and a simple centerpiece to keep the space feeling light and seasonal.

In the dining room I kept the palette restrained. A new blue-and-white rug unifies the space, and a small gray chest provides a spot for a modest vignette. I introduced a subtle touch of dark pink in the artwork and a few pink hydrangeas on the sideboard—tiny pops that feel fresh for spring without overpowering the blue-and-white scheme.

A lucky find at a local shop supplied the perfect pillows for the dining chairs, proving that patience—and a little hunting—pays off when you’re trying to blend patterns and textures for a balanced cottage look.

The home office received a small refresh too: blue-and-white pillows and abstract artwork create a calm, creative corner. And our guest bedroom got a subtle blue-and-white update—just enough to feel fresh for spring; I’ll share more of that room soon.

Small seasonal edits—new rugs, a few pillows, a vase of faux blooms or a woven planter—go a long way toward refreshing a home for spring. Blue and white provide a calm base, while a few well-placed color accents bring warmth and interest.
