Welcome to the first stop on my holiday home tour. I’ve been preparing for weeks to share the dining room I styled this season. It’s a space where rustic charm and soft elegance come together—think antique gold tones, neutral palettes, and vintage-inspired accents that feel both cozy and refined.

If we haven’t met, I’m Suzy—an empty nester living in North Carolina with my husband and two beloved fur babies. I’m so glad you’re here to see how I dressed our dining room for the holidays. I hadn’t shown this room since we updated some furniture, so it’s fun to share the refreshed look.
I tend to keep the rest of our home more casual for the season, but the dining room is where I like to lean into a more elegant vibe. My signature this year is a deliberate mix of rustic and refined elements: matte and shiny finishes, pinecones beside gilded leaves, natural textures like wicker and wood balanced with silk and subtle flocking.
To create cohesion, I distributed these elements throughout the room—not just on the tree. You’ll see the same mix repeated in the centerpiece, on the sideboard and in the small vignette on the gray chest so the palette feels intentional and pulled together.
The furniture mix contributes to the room’s layered look. The table is modern farmhouse, the side chairs are regency-inspired, and the sideboard features Chippendale trim with a slightly distressed painted finish and a stained wood top. Opposite, a small traditional gray chest wears modern abstract artwork above it and is flanked by regency-style armchairs—these contrasts keep the space interesting and balanced.
Now for the decorations. My process always begins with a look through my existing holiday stash. I love when a new arrangement is created from what I already own—mixing old favorites with a few carefully chosen items to enhance the theme.
This year the color story centered on a delicious faux dupioni silk ribbon in a Burberry-inspired plaid. That ribbon became the anchor for the tree and informed the warm neutrals and antique gold accents across the room.
The tree is flocked to suggest a snowy, vintage-inspired look. The topper blends rustic and elegant elements: snowy pinecones, frosted branches, glittering leaves and icy berries that read as organic but refined.
Across the tree I used oversized shiny gold ornaments that I aged with a light coating of dark wax to give them a vintage patina. Those pair with matte, honeycombed gold ornaments, glittered spheres, natural pinecones and gilded pinecone accents for texture and depth.
The finishing touches were the plaid ribbon, a neutral matte ribbon trimmed in gold thread, and sparkling curling garland. These elements pull the look together and echo the room’s metallic touches without overpowering the soft neutrals.
My table centerpiece is intentionally simple: three vintage-gold tinsel trees nestled in a wicker basket, flanked by clear glass hurricane lamps. I filled the hurricanes with Epsom salt to mimic snow and added an aged brass bell to soften the sparkle and introduce a bit of warmth.
The round mirror above the sideboard gets a small swath of flocked garland; the snow-dusted needles and a few pinecones are enough to tie the mirror to the tree’s look without adding more fuss. Nearby, a tinsel wreath serves as a base for a wooden bowl filled with shiny and matte gold ornaments—an easy vignette that echoes the tree’s vintage gold tone.
On the small gray chest I layered a brass bowl with reindeer moss and small gold ornaments. A little decorating hack: I used plastic and paper shopping bags beneath the moss to give it an overflowing, mounded look—an easy, budget-friendly trick to create volume without buying extra filler.
