Admittedly, my progress on home improvements has been slow—especially over the past six months—but I’m recommitting to getting things done. I had big plans last year and paused unexpectedly in May. Now I’m ready to move forward, and this is my updated plan for the year. It’s a lengthy list, and the pace will depend on budget, but I’m motivated to finish several projects and refresh rooms that need it.
MASTER BEDROOM
Earlier posts outlined my mood board and initial plans for the master bedroom makeover and provided a progress update, but I stalled after that. I’m ready to finish this space and expect to share a fresh update soon. I’m making decisions in real time and posting progress on Instagram stories under the handle @worthingcourtblog if you want to follow along.

Current to-do list for the master bedroom:
Purchase new dresser and chest of drawers and change hardware.Purchase new chairs.Purchase new bed and bedding.Purchase new bench for foot of the bed.- Hang wallpaper.
Replaceand hang mirror above dresser.- Paint nightstands and change hardware.
- Makeover or replace lamps on nightstands.
- Add artwork above bed and above chest of drawers.
- Add window treatments.
- Replace ceiling fan.
Replace lamp in bay window area.Purchase accent pillows.
MASTER BATHROOM
My plan is to move directly into the master bathroom once the bedroom is complete. When we moved into the house five years ago we fully remodeled this bathroom, but a few finishing touches remain. Tasks include finishing the vanity details, completing caulking, painting mirror frames and adding final decorative elements to make the room feel truly finished.
Below are photos showing what this bathroom looked like before the remodel; the current room looks much different after the work we already completed.

HALL BATH
During the whole-house remodel we didn’t undertake a full renovation of the hall bath. We removed wallpaper, painted, and replaced the flooring and toilet, but the room was left intentionally unfinished so we could return and complete it properly.
This year’s plans include painting the vanity and replacing the hardware, framing the large mirror, updating the lighting and faucet, and refinishing the tub—removing the glass doors in the process. I snapped a few quick phone photos to document the current state; better photos will follow as the work progresses.

FOYER
Several rooms were completed during the remodel and have held up well, but after five years some areas are ready for a refresh. I’m pleased with the overall outcome of the foyer, but the gallery wall that runs up the stairs has never felt right to me. There’s even a large hole in the drywall hidden behind one of the frames—an embarrassing remnant I plan to fix.
My goals here are to rethink the stairway gallery wall and possibly replace the entry rug and make a few small styling tweaks to enhance the space and better reflect the updated look I want.

FAMILY ROOM / LIVING ROOM
The family room received a substantial refresh last spring and was brightened considerably, but a few updates remain. I plan to replace the draperies, invest in a new area rug, and replace one or two side tables. The major decision will come down to the cost and selection of the rug, which will have the greatest visual impact.

DINING ROOM
The dining room was finished after the remodel back in 2016, but I’m ready to move away from the stronger farmhouse vibe and shift toward a more updated traditional look. I plan to do this with new artwork, an updated area rug, and possibly repainting or replacing the sideboard to give the room a more refined, current feel.

OFFICE
The home office was completed nearly two years ago, and like several other rooms, it’s time for a style update. I’ve already removed the sliding barn door we built for the bookcase and pared back some of the artwork, but additional changes remain. I’ll replace the side chairs, remove the large antique cubby that was hanging behind the desk, change out the artwork, and may replace the desk itself to suit a less farmhouse and more updated-traditional aesthetic.

That sums up my ambitious home improvement resolutions for the year—an overall plan that includes finishing major makeovers, tackling several smaller decorating projects, and refreshing rooms that need a new look. Along the way I’ll continue seasonal and holiday decorating, and I’ll share progress and styling decisions as each project moves forward. What about you—have you made any home improvement resolutions this year?
