A Tour of My Rustic Glam Farmhouse Dining Room Styled for Summer

Summer felt like the perfect moment to introduce color into my farmhouse dining room. I had kept this room neutral through the Christmas season and into winter, but the warmer months called for a brighter, more relaxed look. My goal was to keep the room rooted in the rustic glam farmhouse style while adding fresh, coastal-inspired touches that feel cheerful and timeless.
I often bring touches of blue into other areas of the house, so it made sense to continue that palette here. Blue instantly evokes the beach and open water to me, and using it in the dining room helps create an easy summer vibe without overpowering the room’s neutral foundation.

The inspiration for this refresh came from a set of striped blue salad plates I found. The soft stripe colors suggest sandy tones and the many shades of ocean blue, which tied together the room’s textures and finishes beautifully. I used those plates as a focal point in a breezy summer tablescape that feels casual yet put-together.

For linens I used gray-and-white checked napkins that started life as tea towels—simple, practical, and with plenty of farmhouse charm. They layer nicely under the striped plates and add a relaxed, homey feel to each place setting. Clear glassware and minimal flatware keep the table airy, while a touch of greenery adds life and a soft contrast against the blues.

With a fairly busy vignette on the sideboard, I kept the table centerpiece intentionally simple. I repurposed an open metal tray from my spring mantel and filled it with cylindrical clear glass vases. Inside the vases I placed a mix of pillar candles and artificial greenery for texture. For safety reasons I never light the candles when the greenery is displayed; the combination is purely decorative and creates a pleasing, understated centerpiece.

Some of the striped salad plates also found a home in baskets beneath the hanging lanterns, reinforcing the color scheme and adding cohesion to the space. The vivid ocean blue accents contrast beautifully with the warm woods and weathered metal finishes that define the rustic glam farmhouse look. Greenery—both fresh and faux—pulls everything together and breathes life into the room.

On the opposite sideboard I balanced the blue accents with dried hydrangeas and a few small accessories in complementary shades. The result is a display that feels collected rather than staged—layers of texture and color that invite lingering conversations and relaxed dinners.

I added a pair of globally inspired pillows to the nearby armchairs for texture and contrast. Their tactile nubbiness and geometric motifs bring a different visual language into the room and make the seating area feel cozy and layered. Similar textured pillows can be found through specialty home stores if you want to replicate the look.

One of my favorite images of the room is a reflection captured in an old rustic mirror. Mirrors are a great tool in dining rooms: they make the space feel larger, amplify light, and can highlight a well-styled vignette or table setting. This mirror shot sums up the summer refresh—soft blues, organic textures, and a relaxed farmhouse glamour.

Sharing at these great parties.
