I decorated my fireplace in a winter farmhouse theme as the snow is still falling outside!
As I sit at my desk writing, I’m watching a soft, steady snowfall outside. The snow has been falling all day, and while some people dislike winter weather, this southern girl finds it enchanting. The yard is wrapped in a fluffy white blanket, and there’s something calming about the hush that comes with falling snow. It makes the house feel cozy and encourages a slower, more restful pace—perfect for sharing a winter fireplace reveal.
Judging by the accumulation on the deck railing, I estimate about six inches so far, and the snowfall hasn’t let up. With weather like this, it felt right to keep my mantel decorated in a simple winter farmhouse style that feels seasonal without being holiday-specific.

If you saw my recent post about my Winter Decorating Recipe, you’ll recognize a few of the “ingredients” I used for this mantel. I like to think in layers—mixing texture, tone, and natural elements to create a relaxed, lived-in look.
The mantel arrangement combines galvanized metal accents, faux evergreen branches, warm wood tones, white candles, and bare winter branches. These elements work together to give a farmhouse feeling that still reads like winter rather than Christmas—calm, neutral, and textural.
In the cozy corner next to the fireplace—what I call Pookie’s corner—I layered pattern and texture with plaid pillows, a fuzzy throw, candlesticks, and a lantern for soft light. Those small details create a welcoming spot for reading, relaxing, or watching the snowfall from inside.
Last month I decorated the house for Christmas, and some pieces from that display found a second life on the mantel. The galvanized metal village that sat on the sofa table behind the couch during the holidays was perfect for winter styling. By moving it to the mantel, it continues to feel seasonal without dominating the room.
To continue the galvanized theme, I hung an inexpensive metal container above the village and filled it with faux evergreen branches. The metal’s cool tone pairs nicely with the white-painted brick and soft neutrals in the room, while the greenery brings subtle life to the display.
I kept the hearth styling simple as well. The gray shutters that normally live on the mantel were moved to the hearth to frame the firebox. I added a pretty lantern and a wicker basket filled with faux evergreens and a few real branches gathered from the woods near my house. Using a mix of faux and real greenery makes maintenance easier while still feeling authentic.
One small hiccup: you might notice a real fire in the fireplace in the first two photos and not in the later ones. While photographing, our gas logs decided to go out—just a reminder that small interruptions are part of home life! It didn’t take away from the cozy mood, though.
