I enjoy updating my home for each season, but I don’t want decorating to take over my summer. I’d rather be outside with family than stuck indoors fussing over every detail. So my approach is always: easy, quick, and budget-friendly.
If you work with neutral wall colors and larger furniture pieces, seasonal updates become effortless. Change pillows, swap out a tray or a plant, and the room feels new. Lately I’ve been leaning into a blue-and-white palette—classic, fresh, and very summer-friendly—so you’ll see those colors sprinkled throughout my rooms.

Plants play an essential role in my summer vignettes. I mix real and faux greenery to keep things low-maintenance: a few live plants that are easy to care for, plus a few lifelike artificial options for instant freshness. I rely on an easy-to-read plant, like a peace lily, to remind me when to water—if it droops, it’s time to hydrate everything else.

To shift the fireplace from spring to summer, I swapped a blue-and-white basket for a lidded wicker basket filled with faux ferns. Ferns bring an instant summery, garden-like feel and draw attention away from the darker fireplace opening.

Across from the fireplace, the coffee table features favorite decorating books, blue-and-white accents, and a bamboo-look planter that was a birthday gift—small, meaningful details that make the room feel curated but not fussy.

Fun fact: the coffee table was a thrift find I updated myself—shortened the legs, painted the base, and upholstered the top. It’s a reminder that small DIY projects can yield big style updates.

Behind the couch I kept most of the spring pillows but added a navy-and-white striped pillow for a touch of nautical, summery charm. Stripes are an effortless way to reinforce a seasonal theme.

I love displaying seashells in summer. My mother collected shells for years, and a large bowl of her shells sits on a console table near the couch. Each shell has unique colors, especially the iridescent mother-of-pearl interiors, which always catch the light.

Outside the living room, I added a few seasonal touches to the dining room and kitchen. In the dining room, a blue-and-white urn (actually a decorative footbath) on the sideboard holds a large peace lily, and the table’s centerpiece now includes a faux plant between glass hurricane lanterns.

In the kitchen, I created small blue-and-white vignettes on the counter. A thrifted blue willow platter became the focal point for one grouping; I paired it with a bowl of green apples for a lively color contrast. For lightweight plates mounted to a backsplash, velcro Command strips are a practical option.

The breakfast area centerpiece is intentionally simple: a blue bowl filled with preserved reindeer moss and faux moss-covered rocks. Little, natural-themed arrangements like this add seasonal texture and color without fuss or cost.

As a final note, I’ve been doing a small refresh of the breakfast room by removing the farmhouse-style open shelves and reworking the area above the sideboard. I’ll share more about that update soon—I’m excited about the new direction and how the room is coming together.

I hope these summer decorating ideas inspire you to refresh your spaces with minimal effort. Small swaps—greenery, a seashell bowl, blue-and-white accents, or a striped pillow—go a long way toward creating a light, summery home you can enjoy all season.
