Rustic Farmhouse Christmas Cubby Organizer for Holiday Decor

This Christmas I decorated my cubbie organizer in a rustic farmhouse Christmas theme which looks very festive for the upcoming holiday!

One of my favorite places to shop for home decor is At Home. It’s a one-stop destination for designing every room in your house all year long, and it’s especially fun during the Christmas season. Their selection is extensive, and their everyday low prices make it easy to furnish a full holiday look without overspending.

I couldn’t wait to start decorating this year and decided to use a wooden cubbie organizer on the sideboard in my kitchen. Filling the cubbies with woodsy, rustic Christmas pieces felt right for a farmhouse-inspired holiday display. What I love about shopping at At Home is that their decorations are organized by theme, which made it easy to pull together a cohesive look for the cubbies. They offer a variety of themed collections that simplify mixing and matching decor.

The cubby holes are numbered and in one is a little Christmas tree and berries and in another is a winter fox.

For this display I mixed ornaments and accessories from three At Home Christmas themes: Forest Fairy Tales, Holiday Hoedown and Snowcapped Scene. The ornaments are the perfect size for the cubbies, and shredded brown paper makes a great filler to enhance the rustic feel. I arranged a variety of shapes and textures—mini trees, faux greenery, tiny lanterns, woodland animals, and small wooden pieces—to create visual interest in each compartment.

It’s hard to pick a single favorite ornament, but the white mini lanterns definitely stole my heart. I sprinkled little lanterns throughout the cubbies alongside tiny sleds, wheelbarrows holding miniature trees, and small animal figurines like foxes and deer to reinforce the woodland theme. Grouping items in twos or threes and varying heights keeps each cubby interesting and balanced.

Walking into At Home during the holiday season is like stepping into a Christmas wonderland. They carry a huge selection of artificial trees, ornaments, and décor—available in many sizes, styles and colors. I particularly noticed a few whimsical trees in unexpected hues that add a playful touch to traditional Christmas displays. Before my visit I browsed the store’s Holiday Home Scoop Style section for inspiration, which helped me visualize different combinations and understand what each holiday theme included.

Beyond trees and ornaments, the store offers plenty of complementary items: Christmas pillows, greenery, wreaths, garlands, yard decor, and seasonal accents for every room. These extras make it easy to expand a theme beyond a single vignette and create a cohesive holiday look throughout your home.

When styling a cubbie organizer, keep a few simple tips in mind:

  • Choose a unifying theme or color palette to maintain cohesion across the cubbies.
  • Mix textures—wood, metal, glass, and faux greenery—to add depth and interest.
  • Vary heights and groupings; odd-numbered clusters often look more natural and engaging.
  • Use shredded paper, moss, or small boxes as filler to elevate smaller ornaments and create layers.
  • Don’t be afraid to repurpose small tabletop items or sentimental ornaments for a personalized touch.

Which At Home Christmas theme would you choose for your own cubbie display? A rustic farmhouse theme works beautifully for cozy kitchens and entryways, while brighter, more whimsical themes suit modern or eclectic rooms.
